James is an international lighting designer whose work can been seen round the globe from New York to London and most recently cruising onboard the Cunards newest luxury ocean liner.

James specialises in lighting musical theatre, plays and live events, while also relighting and production designing for many production companies. For the past 8 years he has been associate to both international lighting designers Howard Harrison and Mark Jonathan where they have collaborated on many diverse and unique projects.

James lectures in CAD and Lighting Management to university degree level and draws for various production companies and lighting designers throughout the UK.

Recent Lighting Designs include the Manchester arena production of 'Street of Dreams - Coronation Street the musical', Irish tour of FAME The Musical, Snow White for Qdos at the Orchard Theatre Dartford, An Instinct for Kindness (UK Tour and West End), Free Run Underbelly Edinburgh and London, the Off Broadway transfer of Lingua Franca (59E59), Ordinary Days (Trafalgar Studios, West End) Dinnerladies-Second Helpings (UK Tour) and lighting two new signature shows aboard Cunard's newest ocean liner, The Queen Elizabeth, Hotel Royale and The Piccadilly Line.

Corporate clients, for whom James has designed for include the BBC, BT and Santander.

James has worked Internationally with 'Purple Sheep Lighting' as designer and associate on projects for the Volkswagen Group, GlaxoSmithKline, Sony and Liverpool Victoria. While working with 'Purple Sheep Lighting' James was the associate on many prestige events, which have included one of concerts with Lionel Richie (Roundhouse London), Will Young (Sahara Desert, Morocco), Lemar (Tenerife) and most recently Take That (Grand Palais, Paris).

James works as an Associate Lighting Designer to both Mark Jonathan and Howard Harrison with his most recent projects being, Loserville (West Yorkshire Playhouse), Flashdance (Shaftesbury Theatre, London), The Music Man (CFT), Jayne Eyre (London Children's Ballet) Taking Sides/Collaboration (CFT and Duchess Theatre, London) The Circle (CFT and UK Tour) Babes in Arms (CFT) and Nicholas Nickleby (CFT, UK Tour, London and Toronto). Other selected projects include Macbeth (CFT, Gielgud Theatre London), Complicit (Old Vic, London) The Wizard of Oz (Birmingham Rep), Skellig (The Young Vic) and Suddenly Last Summer (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, UK Tour).

As an assistant and draftsman James's recent involvement to name but a few has been with such projects as Me and My Girl (Sheffield Crucible), Backbeat (Citizens Glasgow), Die Fledermaus (WNO) Love Story (CGT and Duchess Theatre, London), Cinderella and Aladdin (Watford Palace), Dr Faustus, Pymalion and The Miser (Royal Exchange Manchester) and The Marriage of Figaro (Scottish Opera).

James' relights have been for Nottingham Playhouse's UK Tour of Tracy Beaker-Get Real, Nicholas Nickleby (CFT, UK Tour, London), London Assurance (Watermill Theatre, UK Tour), Office Suite (UK Tour) She Stoops to Conquer and Dangerous Liaisons (Mappa Mundi Theatre Company).

James also works as a freelance lecturer in Lighting Design and Lighting Management and has lectured at Rose Bruford College London. Future projects include the associate lighting designer on the West End Transfer of Loserville and Aladdin for Qdos at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford.
